Care Assistant opportunities

Care Assistants are being sought to provide care in the home with leading Care Provider in the Dundee/Broughty Ferry area.

About the Role
Avenue Care Services was set up to help bring a contented smile to everyone we care for, and to set the standard and enhance the values of care in our communities.

Our clients are at the heart of everything we do. As part of our friendly team you’ll assist our clients with their needs. The care we provide enables people to be able to continue to live in their own homes.

You will assist our clients with all aspects of personal care, including:
  • Washing, bathing or showering
  • Assistance with dressing
  • Getting in/out of bed and general mobility
  • Continence/toileting care
  • Catheter and colostomy care
  • Personal and hygiene care including dental care and assistance with shaving
  • Optical care
  • Prompting with medication
  • Prosthesis care
  • Moving and handling using specialist equipment
  • Assistance with feeding 
You will be required to visit various service users in their homes within each shift.

The shifts patterns of care we provide are between 07:00 and 14:00 and 16:00 and 22:30, with staff being required to work one weekend on and one weekend off, based on a set two-week rota.
In return we offer a salary between £8.25 - £9.25 per hour subject to qualifications and experience.
You will also receive uniforms and a rucksack with all necessities for the job, as well as:
  • Quality training to develop your skills
  • Up to 28 days’ annual leave
  • We also pay for your PVG upfront and the recoup it from your first wage
  • Company Pension Scheme
We are keen to recruit full time staff, working 5 days out of 7, but would consider part-time opportunities for the right candidate.
Previous experience in care is not necessary, as full training will be given.
Please note normally we seek candidates that are drivers with their own transport, however on this occasion we have vacancies for non-drivers.

Medical 5 day Non-Residential Summer School

This is a unique opportunity for pupils to spend an entire week with doctors and medical students perfecting their UCAS applications.
When: 10th - 14th July 2017 at Stirling University.
 
Timetable:
Monday: Medical Wider Reading (NHS structure, medical ethics, current affairs)
Tuesday: Personal Statements
Wednesday: UKCAT
Thursday: BMAT
Friday: Medical School Interview Skills
 
All students get 5 books included.
 
Medic Mentor will cover the cost of course fees for students from low-income backgrounds if you meet our student diversity criteria.  These students will need to cover the cost of books only (£25 each).
 
All other students can get a £200 bursary towards the Summer School by using the code medicmentorstudent when registering. 
 
That's 5 full days of lectures and 5 textbooks for £650, and payment plans are also available.

Piperdam Apprenticeships

Piperdam Golf and Leisure Resort are advertising for three Apprentices this year.

Tayside Symposium

A rare opportunity for S5 and 6 pupils who are considering a career in Medicine, Nursing or Allied Professions to meet with the staff and people involved with Organ & Tissue Donation and Transplantation.

Information for S3-S5 pupils

National Medic Mentor Weekend on the 17th and 18th of June is taking place at the University of Stirling. Different healthcare conferences will be at the same venue happening on the same day.

Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Dentistry, Pharamacy, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology

This is a valuable opportunity for pupils to network with a variety of healthcare professions, learn about work experience opportunities and how to make a successful application. Registration is £25 for the Saturday conference and there is an optional UCAS lecutre available for sunday for each speciality. Students can register on the Medic Mentor website and find out more information about the events.

Apprenticeship/Intern Opportunities

Here are some details of a number of new opportunities available for school pupils who are keen to take on a summer internship or an apprenticeship when they leave this summer.
1.       Summer intern with Zudu (Un-paid but could lead to a job offer, details attached)
2.    Summer intern with DC Thomson – Digital and Events Assistant – looking for someone who has an interest in arts/digital festivals or is familiar with digital arts, games and technology trends, especially in social media, communications and marketing. Someone that can help put together a social media campaign and is interested in technology would be great. (Un-Paid but could lead to further employment)
3.       Full-time Digital Marketing Apprenticeship with Concept Group – more details on request
4.       Full-time Apprentice Software Developer with C2 software – job description attached.
