Welcome to Young Mothers Provision

The Young Mothers’ Provision at Baldragon Academy caters for the extra needs of pregnant schoolgirls and young mothers with their babies from across the city. The Baldragon provision is staffed by a Depute Head and Principal Teacher of Guidance supported by a designated YMP support worker. The nursery provision is staffed by the Nursery Head Teacher, a Senior Early Years Practitioner, and a small team of keyworkers.

Service offered to young mothers

We offer young women the opportunity to continue with their education both before and after their babies are born.

The pupils attend mainstream classes and follow a slightly reduced timetable of subjects. This enables them to access an enhanced curriculum specific to being a parent and gives them valuable study periods.

Within Jessie Porter Nursery we have a very well-equipped baby room based in the under threes provision of the setting. This is run by a Senior Early Years Practitioners and a team of keyworkers. The nursery Head oversees the provision. Mums are timetabled to spend at least one period per week in the nursery and have part of their lunchtime in the nursery with their babies.

As well as mainstream subjects, girls are also offered extra-curricular opportunities via a variety of partner agencies to enhance their learning and understanding of parenthood.
